Matt Lisle is a coach, instructor, analyst, and writer who works with baseball and softball players. He is also an Associate Scout for the Detroit Tigers. He works with players ranging in age from pre-school through college, minor league and even at the major league level. Coach Lisle has been a Head Coach at both the College and High School levels for the last 10 seasons, he is also an Associate Scout for the Detroit Tigers. In 2007 Lisle was named the BSAL Coach of the Year while the Head Coach at Saint Mary’s High School in Berkeley. Lisle has also coached 22 players that have been drafted in the Major League Draft in the past 5 years. For the last 10 years Lisle has also worked for the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles organizations and continues to work for the A’s.

His first season at the helm at Saint Mary’s he set many milestones. Lisle finished his inaugural season with the greatest record in the schools 100+ year history (23-1). He also led Saint Mary’s to its highest state ranking ever (Peaked at #2, finished at #7, Div III). Saint Mary’s was the last high school team in California to lose (16-0 record) when it dropped its 17th game of the season vs. Section Quarterfinalist Piedmont (whom St. Mary’s had previously beaten). Lisle also led Saint Mary’s to its furthest playoff finish falling in the North Coast Section Semi-Finals.

Gallaudet University

In 2008 Lisle was the Head Baseball Coach at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. In 2006, he spent a year as an Associate Head Coach at Patten University and 4 years as the Head Coach at Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek where Lisle compiled an overall record of 58-28. He led Berean to its first ever #1 State Ranking in 2005 (Division V) and a school record 18 consecutive wins.

Lisle’s main focus is the development of each individual player that he works with.  His passion is drawn from the realization he had below average results as a college player, in spite of the fact that he had far better than average desire and aptitude. He has been a guest speaker on hitting, pitching, and program building at both high school and college camps and clinics.

Coach Lisle has been coaching club baseball for 8 seasons. He has coached with 2 of the best 16u and 18u programs in the country (Oakland Oaks and NorCal). He has won AAU National Championships and Connie Mack State Championships at the Club Level. Has taken club teams to Regionals and National Championships in Florida, Arizona and more.

  • Helped lead Oakland Oaks to be the 2005 AAU National Classic Champions and 2005 Connie Mack California State Champions
  • In 1st victory as a college head coach (Gallaudet U), led school to break record for most runs scored in a game (30) over Christendom College that was set in 1902
